If you're a confident, coachable individual with a knack for relationship building and technology, we want to hear from you!

  • Position: Full-time
  • Compensation: $50,000 base + commission (OTE: $100,000/yr)
  • Required: Basic understanding of sales prospecting
  • Preferred: Experience in B2B business development, familiarity with the mortgage industry, and experience using CRM systems.
  • Visa sponsorship not available for this position.

The Opportunity

Have you heard!? Own Up is the fastest-growing mortgage marketplace in the country with 100% growth YOY! We managed to successfully grow our market share in a shrinking market and now we’re ready to add fuel to the fire (you’re the fuel!) As our founding Business Development Representative, you’ll be at the forefront, driving the next phase of our growth strategy by expanding our lender network. Your primary mission will be to identify and qualify potential lenders who align with our partner criteria. You'll leverage various cold outreach methods to connect with key decision-makers, articulate the value proposition of partnering with Own Up, and schedule discovery meetings for the Director, Lender Relations. We expect this role to grow as the company scales. Along the way, you’ll work closely with senior leadership and contribute directly to the company’s revenue.

Who We Are

Own Up’s mission is to ensure no borrower overpays for their mortgage by eliminating information asymmetry and pairing borrowers with lenders that best meet their needs. Our technology (yes, we have our own AI!) creates better financial outcomes and simplifies the home financing experience by empowering shoppers with customized data, personalized advice, and unprecedented access to lenders. We're proud to offer a fundamentally different way to get a mortgage.

As a small, scrappy startup we act with urgency in all things, operate with a high degree of cross-functional collaboration, and always keep an eye on our KPI’s to know we’re moving in the right direction. Our even smaller, but mighty Lender Relations team goes above and beyond to build successful partnerships that drive our thriving network. As part of the Lender Relations team, you’ll report directly to the COO, partner with the Director, Lender Relations, and work closely with New Markets and Mortgage Operations teammates.

You Should Apply If

  • You haven’t been a BDR before, but you’re ready to learn
  • You’re excited about Own Up and the startup rollercoaster ride
  • You really want to work a fully remote position
  • You’re a hunter at heart
  • You’re not afraid of the cold (outreach that is)
  • You bounce back quickly from disappointment and stay focused on achieving your goals
  • You’re competent using MacBook, Google Workspace, and Slack (or able to learn)

You Shouldn’t Apply If

  • You’re uncomfortable with change and ambiguity. Working at a start-up requires grit because we’re building the plane as we’re flying it. Challenges will emerge that we don’t yet have the answers to and we’ll need to figure them out in real-time by moving quickly and constantly testing and iterating. How you work may evolve based on business needs and priorities and you’ll need to maintain a positive attitude and give your best effort.
  • You can’t self-manage. Working at a start-up with limited resources and time often means you will sink or swim based on your ability and willingness to take responsibility for your own performance and development.
  • You’d feel lonely working independently. As the first and only BDR with a singular focus, your work will not involve much team collaboration. Additionally, operating in a fully remote role, especially earlier in your career, can feel isolating because you don’t experience the traditional in-office camaraderie with your colleagues.
